Canker sores can happen to anyone, regardless of gender or age. The causes also vary, ranging from infection, lack of vitamins or minerals, accidentally biting the tongue or the inside of the cheek, stress, hormonal changes, to allergies. Mild canker sores generally do not require special treatment because they can heal on their own within 1-2 weeks. Even if you use drugs, it is intended to reduce symptoms or pain due to canker sores. If you can't stand canker sores for a long time, there are ways you can do to heal canker sores quickly.

To relieve pain and speed up the healing of canker sores, there are several ingredients or natural canker sores that can be used, namely: 

1. Saga leaves and licorice

Saga leaves and licorice have long been believed to be efficacious for treating canker sores. Therefore, this plant is often used as herbal medicine because it has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects. These various effects make saga leaves able to accelerate wound healing due to canker sores.

2. Betel 

leaf Betel leaf is often consumed by chewing. This plant, commonly used in traditional medicine, has several properties, including being an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial. Betel leaf can be used as herbal medicine to maintain healthy teeth and mouth. 

3. Honey 

According to a study, honey is effective in preventing infection and helping wound healing, including wounds caused by canker sores. To cure canker sores, you can apply honey four times a day. Choosing honey that is not heated to high temperatures (pasteurized) is recommended. 

4. Coconut oil 

Besides honey, you can also apply coconut oil to canker sores. This oil is believed to cure and prevent the spread of canker sores due to bacterial infections and help reduce the redness and pain of canker sores.

5. Ice cubes 

Pain from canker sores often makes it difficult to eat and drink. To be able to chew food or drink water more comfortably, you can put ice cubes in the area around the canker sore to reduce the pain for a while. 

6. Chlorhexidine mouthwash 

Chlorhexidine can eradicate disease-causing bacteria in the mouth. This medicine can also treat bleeding, swelling, and inflammation of the gums. This drug is also often used to treat canker sores. However, the side effect of chlorhexidine can make teeth and tongue brown. 

7. Ointment

Topical medication containing the active ingredient corticosteroid, benzocaine, or fluocinonide can reduce the pain of canker sores and speed up healing. 

But remember, even though the natural ingredients above have long been used as herbal remedies for canker sores, further research is still needed to determine the effectiveness and safety of each ingredient. 

Ask your doctor or dentist for advice before using any medications to treat canker sores, especially if you have certain medical conditions or are taking medication from a doctor. 

Go to the dentist immediately if the canker sore your experience does not go away within three weeks, is large, or feels very sore even though you have taken pain medication; likewise, if thrush is accompanied by fever and difficulty eating and drinking. 

The dentist will conduct an examination and provide the proper treatment to treat canker sores or refer you to a specialist if other diseases are found that underlie the appearance of canker sores.
